Imagine if you will, that the world you know has been destroyed. Blasted by fire and stomped under the treads and feet of massive war machines before becomming torn right asunder in a nuclear wave. Imagine a world made into a wasteland of ash and death that lasted for centuries, destroying almost 90% of all life on earth, leaving behind massive ruins of a once mighty civilization of mankind as carcasses of powerful tanks and robotic war-walkers litter the dry desolate plains.

In other words. Shit got fucked yo.

Mother nature then strived to take back the earth with a vengance as the last remnants of the human race huddle in thier underground bunkers. Generations after generations were born as the war stories of today became the legends of tommorow. Soon humanity walked out of thier bunkers and entered a world alien to the one they knew. The forests now cover the old bones of the earth that was, wrapping thier green vines around the skeletons of metal and stone skyscrapers.

And now terrible creatures populate these forests. Massive scaled dragons and Lion headed beasts feeding off the forests and each other. The human race was forced to start from scratch, living thier lives as they did back in the old feudal days with thatch roofed cottages in small villages as well as buildings of stone, wood and tile in places like the imperial city, the absolute center of the new human government in the new country of Els Enora.

Els Enora is a fantasy Steampunk Roleplaying game Set on an earth populated by creatures who have evolved from mutated monsters from after the great nuclear war. A world where mankind gets by with the technology we left behind for them. Scrap metal and old hulks put back together again and powered by great Steam and Combustion engines. But these technologies are rare and most farms are still tilled by the sweat of ones brow as treasure seekers search out for rare artifacts of the old world and legendary monster hunters beat back the new predators that prey on humanity.

The world you once knew is dead. The new world is just beginning.

Luca sat blot up right in bed, wide eyes frantically searching the dark room where he had been sleeping just seconds before. He tentatively reached out and struck a flame to a candle. he looked around the room again, then took a few calming breaths, he looked at the winding pocket watch. 3:16 am. every night the same time. this was really had on his ability to function in the day time. He got out of bed and splashed some cold water from the basin onto his face. his little three room house consisted of a workroom, which housed his bed and bath room all very sparse and basic. the bed would fold into the wall to make room for working. a main room with a fireplace and small table and stool. and the Pantry. he folded the bed up and started working to clear his mind. he worked until the sun had risen and the sounds of life had started from outside his home. sighing resignedly he stood up and picked up his Deliveries Satchel, and heading to the town Hall.

Esquires Theme

Esquire.
A small Coastal Village that lies on the southward rim along the Aigaion Sea. Nestled Comfortably underneath Mount Baccus, Esquire acts as one of many trade hubs that dot the outer edges of Els Enora. The entire Village sits upon the Knee of the mountain, it's buildings Square and made of bleached white stone decorated in shades of Blues and reds. The roads are cobblestone and winding with many clean back alleys and pedestrian overpasses crossing small streams and rivers. Further up the mountain is the farms, Large cottages of stone housing multiple families tilling large fields of various grains, fruits and vegitables. Theres a large courtyard at the base of the city, beside the water where the Markets are found, close to the Everklein Docks.

The Town Hall sits in the city Center, home of the Village Mayor. A Large burly man gone to fat named Augustus Borghev, Bombastic, Charismatic and loud, with a Large Bushy beard, the city joke is that you can usualy hear Mayor Borghev (Think BRIAN BLESSED) comming LONG before you see him. Beside the Town hall is the pride and joy of Esquire, the Mighty Steam Clock. A Tower with a Quartz Clock that uses Pressurized Steam blasts from Musical Organ Pipes to Declare the time of day. Every hour on the hour.

It is common for the People to refer to time as "Morning Pipes just called, It's Breakfast time!" or "I just heard The evening Pipes. Guess it's bed time......."

The Inn and pup Of Esquire is called the Grand Drake, a rather ominous name considering the Village had actualy been Attacked by a Grand Drake many years ago. The Propriater is an Attractive young woman named Sarah Lamounge with the help of her many neices and nephews.
The city also has it's own Town Militia, a small force comprised of Men and women of all ages armed with Modified Farmers Tools made into deadly polearms as well as two Muskets and three Clockwork Crossbows. The militia is lead by a Husband and Wife duo by the name of Jeronimus and Ephilia Gruss. The Militia uniform is standard Leather armor underneath a rich blue cape with the town crest on it.

Steamships and Trollies sit out at the docks, while the farms billow under a steam cloud shooting from the Steam Tractors and Threshers.
Up the mountain and a tad to the right lies the small bricked house of one Christopher Belhaan, Master Mechanic of all of Esquire at the tender age of 19 years. A Firey red headed young man with a bunker like workshop where he keeps his tools and fixes the machines of the village. And at 3:16am, Right now one would find Christopher sleeping peacfully in bed.

Theres a light fog hangind in the city as the unluckey few militia members patrol the streets. The city as virtualy no crime beyond the occasional dockside scuffle, no, the Patrols were for the Night Creatures that preyed on the townsfolk once in awhile. Thier eyes alert and watching lest they be made into an early morning breakfast themselves.

Many of the Villagers and Militia-folk greet Luca with a cheery (Albiet Sluggish) wave as he goes about his business.

Luca Silently nodded greetings to those he meet, preferring to avoid people in general. He was wasn't scared of people, he just didn't understand how they worked. So he tended to feel intimidated and uncomfortable socializing. He walked up the Steps to the Hall and pushed the side door to the mail room.

The inside of the room Luca enters is sparse and empty, The stone walls, the same bleached white as the outside with repeated patterns in blues and reds. It looks about as much as one would expect a post office would look like, a small counter where a clerk would sit and work and behind that counter, a massive wall of Shelves containing cubby holes of numerous sizes, Arranged in a color code so Bizantine that it boggled the minds of everyone except for the postal clerks.

One Slot behind the counter is reserved for Luca. Inside is a large Parcel and a Folded note written in the Mayors bold flowing script. One can almost hear his Sonorous Baritone voice behind ones shoulder.

Ah, Good morning m'boy!
Here's hoping your reading this at a more respectable hour, but if that should not be the case, you'll find a Small Parcel of Miss Lamounge's Dried Honey biscuts behind the counter for your travels, do be sure to thank the fine lass, unless of course you find yourself at the crack of dawn. Then it would probably be best to let the young Miss sleep eh?
Now where was I? Ah yes, todays an interesting one for you my boy. It had come to my attention the night before that the Township of Havenstahl Has come into possesion of a machine thats quite thoroughly stumped thier own Mechanics corps. Now I know it's alittle out of your way, but I was wondering if you could take our young Christopher Belhaan with you so that the both of you could make your own observations and assesments before returning here, WITH the machine if you can finagle it.
The boy can do with a change in Scenery anyway, always locked inside that dreadful workshop of his, belching smoke and the like.
He needs to come out and see the sunlight once and awhile!

Well thats all for now. Your usual Items for your more mundane routes are already enclosed within the Parcel, and Best of Luck to you both from all of us.
Lord (HA! Just kidding) Mayor Augustus Grizwald Borghev.

"Hey, get up."
Gareth is nudged from his deep sleep by one of his companions. He rolls away from the interruption groaning. This is the first time in awhile he's had the opportunity to sleep in a real bed. "Grrrmph.. bugger off Bryce. 'm sleepin." He responds, waving one arm weakly in Bryce's general direction.
"If you don't get up, we're not getting you breakfast."
Gareth looks up from the pillow at his friend. A large, stocky man, two years his senior. "Shite. They're makin' brekkie this early?" Gareth mumbles, looking out the window into the misty street. "We'll we've been hired to deal with one of their monsters, so we can get away with making some unsightly demands." Bryce chuckles. This got Gareth up. "Fu-" He begins before it extends into an unintended yawn. "You woke some poor girl to cook for us at, what-" He looks down at his pocketwatch on the nightstand. "Buggering almost half past three?" Bryce grins and winks. "Well, William saw to it she didn't get much sleep to wake from." "Grumbling, Gareth sits up and stretches. "Fine, I'll kit up, save some food for me, Ill be down in a sec." He stands, still wearing his street pants and pushes Bryce out the door, shuts it, and begins to put his leathers on. With some quick strapping, he clamps the arm armour on, and inspects the releases on his armour. Checking to ensure quick release, should he get bit. "Don't wanna get bit and thrown by this chimera thing. Dad went that way." He mutters, grabbing his knife belts and going downstairs.

Gareth and his 'brothers', Bryce, William and Peter had been hired by the mayor of this town, some 'borgeev' guy or something, to deal with a Chimera that had been sighted near the outskirts of town. As a gift, on top of payment, he had put them up in rooms in their inn, The Grand Drake. Some story behind that name, he didn't really care. They were only there to do the job, get paid, and move on. Descending the stars, he meets quickly with Peter, a full head taller than him, whining about William. "He's whoring around again. He should be checking his equipment, but instead he's being a complete twat." Gareth grumbles. "So, whine to Bryce. I can't do anything about him." Sitting down, he glares at William across from him, his face buried in the cleavage of a rather bored looking serving girl, with his brown curly hair the only thing recognizable about him. Two large steam powered bolt throwers lean against the table next to him, with two 'bush suits' ((think like ghillie suits)) piled on the chair.

"Hey, if this one's a poison breather, we can sell the glands to an apocethary for a killing." Gareth says, trying to get his brother's attention. "MMPH. MMMHMM!" Is the muffled response. "Well, stop distracting yourself with her and eat. There'll be plenty more girls when we get back to the big city." William turns to Gareth, his face flushed, and hair mussed with a grin. "You always gotta be so serious. We could die anytime out there, but you never have any fun with us." He says, grabbing a spoon. "Least this town's better off than the last one we worked. t's reflected in the quality of th' girls."

Luca's eyes light up at the mention of a new machine, then instantly vanished at the thought of having to work with someone he didn't know. "Not like he'll be much help" he grumbled. Sighing he opened up the parcel. he took out a biscuit and munched on it. He'd never understood why Miss Lamounge kept giving him snacks... But he enjoyed them greatly. He set about organizing his bag for the day. A little after 4am he set out. thinking that "It would be best to get the in town Delivers done first," then grab his gear.

Leaves crunched slightly under soft footsteps as Ansley made her way down the dark road. Usually a bustling highway for travelers, at three in the morning it is dead. Walking around at night was never a good idea for anyone especially if they were alone but Ansley needed to leave town quickly and quietly. She smiled as she heard the satisfying jingle of coins bouncing around in the pocket of her jacket. She fingered the necklace a smirk on her face, the turquoise stone and gold chain cool against her skin. Ansley entered the outskirts of Esquire. She made her way to the inn 'The Grand Drake", a place she had stayed once before. Opening the door she entered the small inn occupied only at the moment by a group of men and a serving girl with a large chest. Ansley went and grabbed a small table by herself positioned not far from the small group and gestured at the serving girl. Pulling off her jacket she left her loose wavy hair fall around her shoulders and settled into the chair with a small sigh.

As the serving girl moves toward the woman who had walked in, Gareth stands, and places a crude map on the table. "Aight gentlemen. Here's the plan. Willam, I want you set up here, peter here, and Bryce here." He says, pointing at various points on the map. "I'll lead the beast between William and Peter. You guys fire the nets, and Bryce and I finish it off." William raises his hand. "So, ehm. Why d' you always play bait?" Gareth looks up from the map at William. His 'brothers' half smile taunting him. "Well, you and peter are the best shots we have, and Bryce can't outrun me yet." Gareth looks over at Bryce, the noticeably better built of the four. "Unless you want to have a Chimera snapping at your heels. That's okay too." Bryce throws his hands up. "Hey, you can go ahead and have all the fun you want." Gareth grabs the bread from his meal, quickly gobbles it down. "Alright, let's get ready to move soon. I'd like to be out of here before half past four."

Running down the back streets on his usual route, Luca Delivered the few small packages of supplies that came in from out of town. He Decided to take a short cut over a Dead-end ally. the wall was high, but he wanted to get done quickly and this would shave precious minutes of his task. He ran up the lane, picking up as much speed as he could. there was a low bin to the left of the wall, He jumped, pushed off the wall and landed on it. Then he leaped up just enough to grab the edge of the wall. Then, struggling, he swung his legs over and dropped to the other side. Silently praising himself at his success, he darted away towards "The Grand Drake".

Post  Roseblade Mon May 17, 2010 10:40 am

Ansley yawned and ordered her food from the tired looking serving girl. When the girl left Ansley pulled the leather pouch from her jacket and dumped the contents onto the table in front of her in a neat pile. Her eyes lit up when she saw the riches in front of her, many gold coins, enough to buy her room and board for at least two weeks, maybe a new set of clothes and bag as well. An engagement ring far too small for the finger of the man she stole it from lay amongst the pile, the surface encrusted in diamonds, this was also accompanied by a silver chain with a dainty religious symbol hanging from it. She smirked at the irony of a religious man in the midst of committing himself eternally to another human was committing a sin that went against those vows that are placed with those objects. Ansley scooped the items back into the pouch and tucked it away as the serving girl came back with her food. She paid her and the girl left quickly, thankful for a few hours rest before the sun rose over the horizon. She wondered if the man she had robbed was still tied to the bedposts completely naked screaming for help or if he had finally escaped and was searching for her only to find in dismay she had skipped town. It was no matter to her she was miles away sitting in a small inn eating breakfast and reveling in her nights pay. Ansley's gaze wandered over to the group of men sitting across the room from her. She began comparing the bunch, debating which of them would be the best victim for her next job.

Double checking his pockets, Gareth realizes he's missing some extra pouches. He quickly runs upstairs, grabbing a few and stringing them onto his belt, before locking his door. He looks at his brother's rooms, and sees that they're all ajar. "Pheh. Their loss." He mutters to himself on the way back down the stairs. "Well guys, I'm ready to go. Outside in five." He says to the others, stepping out into the damp morning air outside.

Luca was running nearly full out by the time he got to 'The Grand Drake', and didn't have enough time to slow as he saw the door opening and collided with the man coming out. He landed sprawled on his back, winded. He turned pale white pale when he looked at the man he'd run into. He jumped to his feet, looking like he was about to bolt but planted in place. he looked around, hoping someone else would be around to help him. most people were still asleep, one of he reasons he liked mornings... "Uh. I- Here-." He tired to help the man up.

Accepting the help, Gareth stands and brushes himself off. "And here I thought you people didn't like being out too early." He mutters. Looking at the clearly shocked look on the man in front of him, and then jabs his thumb over his shoulder toward the inside of the inn.. "Were you in a hurry or something?"

Still terrified, and wondering how he had managed to get out of the confrontation unscathed, Luca tired to speak again. "I have a delivery for then men staying at the grand Drake. Ansley ate her food fairly quickly realizing that she was hungrier then she thought. Pushing her plate aside she stood and looked over at the table where three of the original four were sitting. She noticed the various equipment they possessed and targeted them as hunters. She eyed them up and down with a playful smirk and a swish of the hip in their direction Ansley went upstairs to her rented room.

Marty, with a slight waddle walks to the merchant's square and puts down his suitcase and looks around while wipping the dew from his stach. He didn't like getting up this early, it was tough on his bones not to mention his sleeping habbits but it was better to be first and he could nap when its slow. Marty looks down at the suit case and gives it a swift kick and it flings open two giant wagon wheels pop out then the suit case flattens and folds out into the body clockwork can be seen moving every peice around till the wagon is created all the selling items already stocke and ready "another day" Marty mumbles to himself then pulls down the chair and sits leaning his head against the wagon and naps lightly

Seeing the display of clockwork machinery, Gareth smiles grimly. "Merchants are out. It's time for us to move." He goes back inside, and points to his brothers. "Alright gentlemen, let's be off before it starts to get crowded." He says. The others mobilize, grabbing their equipment and following him out the door. As the four walk past the lone merchant napping at his stall, Gareth knocks loudly upon the table. "Oi! What have you got for sale today, old man?"

Soon the Giant Clock Tower lets loose with a multitude of billowing jets as it's sharp but sonorous cry plays out in a series of musical blasts of varying length and pitch. This particular Piping chime is the Call for the Towns Night Guards to set down thier arms and be relieved by the Day guard. Soon Young men and women, shoulders slumped and body relaxed, faces painted with relief at another uneventful night, began flooding into the Inn. Still Clad in thier Uniforms of Boilded Leather Armor underneath a small Blue Cloak with the Towns Crest embroidered upon it, the militia filed into the Inn and immediatly set about filling up seats and chattering away as More Serving Girls (And Boys, in a nod to the many groups of young, and not quite as young, women in the Town Militia) Serving Coffee and Delicious Beer as rauckus laughter began to fill the place as stories of the nights deeds were circulated like currency.

"What he thought was another blood Wasp turned out to be a leaf........"
".....So I tells Farmer Eugene to be more careful or else. Getting sick and tired of going after lost livestock time and time again........"
"......So Of course I find her leaning against the wall, dead asleep......"
Followed by the Shrill cry of
"WAS NOOOOOOT! I....I was just resting me eyes s'all!"
And the always chilling....
".....Piotr and I saw it! It was the size of a Workhorse and had teeth the length of me arm it did! Thought it was gonna take BOTH out heads off before it just lumbered back into the bush......"
"Probably didn't Like your smell"
Would be the Reply as the Room erupted into laughter once again.

Soon the door behind the Serving counter would burst open and out would walk a young woman in her late 20's, early 30's with Rich long auburn curly hair and a pleasent freckled face with a small pair of glasses sitting on the end of her nose, lugging a mighty pot of steaming fish stew. A few more serving boys and girls, Nieces and Nephews all, followed behind her with bowls and spoons as she set about with that mechanical precision that comes from practise and Repitition. The second the Night guards caught wind of the scent, they immediatly stopped thier chatter and sat up as one before lining up in a single file line infront of the massive pot of Stew. The young woman with the pot, glasses and a great warm smile covering a mousy face, Sarah Lamounge would then greet each and every member of the Night guard with a bowl of Fish and Vegetable stew.

They would make small talk with her and she would laugh, a clear and musical sound like wind chimes before meekly wiping her stew covered hands on Her Apron that protected her forest green dress from stains. Everybody in the city knew that Sarah favored the Night guard and with good reason. The Position was VERY unpopular due to the very real and constant danger and if it wasen't for the Free stew, drink and Warm smiles, The night guard wouldn't have anywhere NEAR the numbers it did.

Soon After a few bowls were emptied, Instruments would be plucked out of nowhere before a rousing bouncy tune would be played on Guitar, drums, and flutes made of hammered and pressed copper. This would go on long until the Morning Pipes would play, Signaling to the rest of the city to shake itself awake and wipe the sleep from it's eyes.

Looking over the merchant's inventory quickly, Gareth sneers slightly. "You don't have a whole lot here I don't already have, or don't have better of." Then, looking over one box, with various tools and the like, his eyes brighten. "However, good sir, I am a hunter, about to go and tackle a pesky Chimera outside of town. If you could give me a good deal, My carving knife has seen the last of it's days recently." He says, unwrapping a small package attached to his belt to reveal a knife with a bone handled hilt, and a strong steel blade, showing considerable wear, had clearly been sharpened many, many times, and snapped in half. "It broke while I was trying to carve off some particularly strong scaled from a grand drake. Can you perhaps find me an equivalent, or better blade?" He says re wrapping it. "I'd check the blacksmiths, but the blade itself is of ancient make, and hard to find, even harder to reproduce." He then turns at the sounds of the clock tower's chimes and whistles. "I'll need to get out there soon, but keep that in mind, and I'll be back." He says to the merchant, turning and walking away toward the east end of town, his brothers in tow.
